Dana and Kyle picked Plymouth, Michigan for their engagement session. We had a perfect spring…almost summer day to wander around the streets of Plymouth looking for good backgrounds. The Plymouth Coffee Bean started and ended our session with some fun furniture and backgrounds. It’s such a perfect time of the year to get green grass, green trees and some blooming bushes. Look forward to Dana and Kyle’s summer wedding photos.
Stephen and Rebecca’s wedding is coming up in July. Since it’s January in Michigan, we chose the friendly and warm confines of the Detroit Institute of Arts for their engagement session. Rebecca had never visited the DIA before, so it was kind of a whirlwind tour / engagement session. With great winter window light we were able to get some beautiful shots. We even ventured outside for a few at the end of the session. Looking forward to a warm summer day in July. Enjoy.
If a person has booked a wedding package with me, they will receive a complementary engagement session (this is sometimes called a “getting to know you session” or a “lifestyle session”…among other things). This is truly the most fun I probably will have with the couple and is the session I enjoy the most. Why, because there are no rules. Usually there is no time frame, usually there are no boundaries and I get to losen the couple up and get them to just have some fun.
I, as a photographer, have an ulterior motive. I want to learn how far I can push the couple, how they interact with each other and quite probably how they will interact with each other on the wedding day. I am very upfront about my objectives and tell the couple what I’m looking for and what I expect from them at the beginning of the session. The guys usually roll their eyes, the girls usually say, “we ARE going to have fun.” In the end I’ve only had one guy, in over 100 engagement sessions, ever say he thought it was a lot of work. Mission accomplished…some super fun photos for the couple, a learning day for me, a day I get to experiment and push my boundaries a little and in the end a couple that will be happy they spent that 1.5 hours with me…getting to know their photographer.
Molly and Ron decided Cranbrook, in Bloomfield Hills, would be a great setting for their engagement session. I ended up taking them to some different areas than I normally go to, and we ended up with some fun and unique photos. We even got some photos on a rusty sculpture…just for Molly’s mom (you’ll have to ask Molly about that one)! Molly and Ron’s wedding is coming up in early Sept. and I look forward to their big day.
Fadia and JP, another of my 2011 couples that have been trying to get their e-session in before their wedding. Our lovely Michigan weather has changed our plans multiple times. JP, is an owner of a hockey rink and wanted to make sure we had some Red Wings representation in their pictures. We started out on Belle Isle in Detroit with blustry winds that must have made the wind chill below freezing. We then moved on to Joe Louis Arena for JP’s shots and then some street scenes not from from JLA. I can’t wait until their wedding. Besides being a truly handsome couple, they are a lot of fun. June 18th isn’t far off…hopefully it will be warmer.
After a few washout days this spring, we finally got a beautiful evening for Mike and Jessica…and Nikko (their 6 month old puppy) too. A springtime walk at Stoney Creek Metropark made the background for our e-session. Some of my favorite areas of the park didn’t let us down. While the ground cover is still emerging, some of the spring flowers made for some beautiful splashes of color. Nikko may not have enjoyed the walk so much, winding up with a coat of burrs for the happy parents to spend the evening picking out. Mike and Jessica are getting married in September and I am truly looking forward to their wedding.
I’ve known Danny for a lot of years. So when I heard he was getting married, it made me feel like I was getting old. Danny and Emma now live in Athens, Georgia and were here in Detroit for a quick wedding planning session. We were able to squeeze a fun engagement session in at the Detroit Zoo. The weather wasn’t like they left in Georgia, but it was still a nice Michigan spring day. We toured the zoo and got some pictures that show their personalities and some of the cool areas of the zoo. I look forward to July 2012 for their wedding day…and yes, I still feel like I’m getting old. Congratulations Emma and Danny.
Miss J asked about doing a boudoir shoot for her fiance as a gift. In the last year brides have been asking about the service and Miss J was the first to book the session. I was really happy with the way the images turned out. When the session was finished we got a call from Miss J and she told us how much she’d enjoyed the day and although a little apprehensive at first was completely relaxed and had a great time. She’d highly recommend a boudoir session to any bride, wife, girlfriend or just a woman who needs an ego boost. As you can see, we’re keeping the style tasteful, yet alluring.
These sessions are photographed by me and my wife Tracy as my assistant. We can do the session in your home or our studio, wherever you are most comfortable.
For the next month, we are offering boudoir specials to kick off the service. Give us a call and set up a time to discuss a session.
